The Brookhaven Snapshot: This week in Brookhaven

With the warmer weather and longer days, more people are spending time outside walking through neighborhoods, visiting local shops, and enjoying parks and patios around Brookhaven. Our officers love seeing the community out and about.

As activity increases around town, it’s also a time when officers typically respond to more opportunistic incidents in busy areas like shopping centers and parking lots. These situations often happen quickly and rely on distraction or moments when people are caught off guard.

The good news is that a few simple habits, like staying aware of your surroundings and keeping personal belongings secure can go a long way in preventing problems before they happen.

Our officers remain actively patrolling commercial areas and neighborhoods to help ensure Brookhaven continues to be a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

Public safety is strongest when it’s built on partnership.

At the Brookhaven Police Department, we believe that public safety is strongest when it’s built on partnership.

Every day our officers work to protect the people who live, work, and visit our city, but we know that a safe community is something we build together. From neighbors looking out for one another to residents who stay informed and engaged, small actions across the community make a meaningful difference.

This time of year brings more activity around Brookhaven, and that’s something we’re excited to see. It’s also a great reminder that awareness and communication are some of the most powerful tools we have to prevent crime before it happens.

Thank you for continuing to work alongside us to keep Brookhaven a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

Because when it comes to public safety, we are always better together.

Preventing Grab-and-Go Theft

Busy shopping areas and public spaces are great places to spend time, but they can also create opportunities for quick “grab-and-go” thefts. These incidents typically happen in moments when someone is distracted or personal items are left unattended.

Our officers occasionally respond to situations where phones, purses, or shopping bags are taken quickly from tables, carts, or open vehicles. These types of thefts often rely on speed and surprise.

The best prevention is simple awareness. Keeping personal items close, securing valuables in vehicles, and staying mindful of your surroundings can significantly reduce the chances of becoming a target.

Our officers continue to patrol commercial areas and work closely with local businesses to maintain a safe environment for shoppers, diners, and visitors throughout Brookhaven.

Brookhaven Strong

One of the things that makes Brookhaven special is the strong sense of community that exists across our neighborhoods, businesses, and public spaces.

Every day, our officers see residents looking out for one another neighbors checking on neighbors, businesses supporting local safety efforts, and community members staying engaged with the work we do.

Public safety is never the result of one group working alone. It happens when a community stays informed, connected, and committed to protecting what matters most.

Together, we continue to make Brookhaven a place where people feel safe to live, work, and enjoy everything our city has to offer.

That’s what it means to be Brookhaven Strong.
