Building Community, One Step at a Time
Every week, we hear the same powerful question from residents:
“How can I help?”
At the Brookhaven Police Department, building community isn’t just what we do, it’s who we are. And if you’ve ever wanted to support the work we do and directly impact the lives of children in need, we have the perfect opportunity for you.
Join us for our 12th Annual Hot Pursuit 5K Glow Run on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at our brand-new location: The Peachtree Creek Greenway (1793 Briarwood Rd).
This event is more than a race; it’s a movement. It’s a night filled with energy, lights, laughter, and purpose. Whether you run, jog, walk, or power walk, your participation directly supports our Shop with a Badge program, where Brookhaven officers personally shop with children during the holidays, creating lasting memories and providing gifts for families who need them most.
You don’t have to be a runner to make an impact, you just have to show up. Bring your family, bring your friends, and let’s light up the night together for a cause that matters.
Can’t make it in person? You can still make a difference by donating online—every dollar goes toward bringing holiday joy to children in need. 👉 Donate Here
Let’s build something meaningful. One step, one glow, one kid at a time.

Community Heroes: A New Chapter with the City of Brookhaven
This week, we’re proud to recognize the City of Brookhaven as our Community Hero for opening the doors to the brand-new City Centre, a space designed to serve, inspire, and connect.
The City officially kicked off the opening with a Community Day this past Saturday, inviting residents to explore the state-of-the-art facility and experience the incredible rooftop view that truly sets this building apart. From families to city staff to local leaders, it was a day full of energy, pride, and celebration.
***Please note: The former location at 4362 Peachtree Rd is now closed. All city services have moved to the new City Centre at 4001 Peachtree Rd.
We’re excited about this new chapter and the opportunities it brings to continue building strong, transparent, and community-centered government.
Congratulations to the City of Brookhaven for creating a space that reflects the heart of the community!

It’s still the same link; just a brand-new look.

Traffic Safety Tips: Yes, the “Slow Poke” Law Is Real
Let’s clear up a common frustration on our roads: the “Slow Poke” law isn’t just a myth, it’s real, and it’s important.
We’ve all been there, stuck behind someone going 15 under the limit in the left (passing) lane. Trust us, we feel it too. While we may not always be able to enforce it in every moment, the law is clear:
No one shall drive a vehicle at such a slow speed as to impede the normal and reasonable flow of traffic, unless it’s necessary for safe operation.
Translation? The LEFT lane is for PASSING.
The RIGHT lane is for driving.
Please help us spread the word and remind others who may not know or may have forgotten. It’s not just about courtesy it’s about keeping traffic moving safely and efficiently.
If you see something, say something. Your call could make all the difference. For emergencies, always dial 911.

Crime Prevention: Community Is Our Strongest Security System
When it comes to preventing crime, nothing is more powerful than a connected community. Building trust, getting to know your neighbors, and staying informed are some of the most effective tools we have, not just for responding to crime, but for stopping it before it starts.
Here’s how you can help build safety and connection right where you live:
Introduce yourself to your neighbors. Even a quick hello builds familiarity and trust.
Start or join a neighborhood group. Whether it’s Neighborhood Watch, BPACT, or a simple group chat, connected communities notice and report what doesn’t belong.
Report suspicious behavior. You don’t have to be sure it’s a crime, just let us check it out.
Look out for each other. Keep an eye out for packages, kids walking home, or unusual activity.
When we know each other, we look out for each other. Community isn’t just about connection, it’s crime prevention in action.
Brookhaven Strong
In a world that often feels divided, showing up for your community is a quiet kind of courage. Whether you're walking in a 5K, helping a neighbor, or simply making space for conversation, you’re helping to build something bigger than yourself.
Community isn't built by big gestures alone, it's built by consistent presence.
You don’t have to have a title. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to show up, with heart, with hope, and with a willingness to be part of the solution.
So here’s your reminder this week:
You matter. You’re needed. And you belong at the table.
Let’s keep building Brookhaven together.
