In this issue, we celebrate how Brookhaven continues to lead with heart, purpose, and people. From the Peachtree Creek Greenway to your own home screen, we’re showing up for one another.
In this week's issue:
Together we are Better
Community is more than just a word, it’s something we build, protect, and invest in every single day. From our youth programs to safety workshops to events like the Hot Pursuit Glow Run 5K, everything we do is rooted in connection.
Last week’s race wasn’t just a fundraiser, it was a reminder that when we show up together, great things happen. Whether you're running beside us, asking questions at a community event, or spreading safety tips in your neighborhood, you’re part of what makes Brookhaven stronger.
Our team is here for you, not just in emergencies, but every day, building bridges, listening to concerns, and creating safer, more united spaces.
Thank you for walking this journey with us. Let’s keep growing, together.
Hot Pursuit 5K Glow Run - When Community Runs Together
This year’s 12th Annual Hot Pursuit Glow Run wasn’t just a race, it was a movement of unity, generosity, and joy.
On Saturday, August 23rd, the Peachtree Creek Greenway lit up with glowing runners, walkers, strollers, families, and law enforcement officers all coming together for one purpose: to make the holidays brighter for kids in our community.
Yes, the weather tried to play with us, but the sun still shined over Brookhaven and the glow was real.
Here’s what you helped us do:
Over 200 total runners and walkers
Over $12,000 raised for our Shop With a Badge program
Many of our businesses and organizations participated, not just as sponsors, but as runners
Officers, volunteers, and countless community members joined in the fun
Thank You
To everyone who showed up, cheered, volunteered, ran, or donated, thank you. Your energy, presence, and support were unmatched. Whether it was your first race or your twelfth, your participation made this one unforgettable.
Every dollar raised will help us take kids shopping this holiday season - giving them the chance to create joyful memories and build positive experiences with law enforcement.
Still want to donate?
Reach out directly to Sergeant Moore at [email protected] to contribute to this meaningful cause. There’s still time to make an impact.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you Brookhaven. When we say #CommunityFirst, this is what we mean.

Student Corner: Cyber Security Starts at Home
Watch for the signs. Speak up early. Stay involved.
With the amount of time students spend online, whether it’s social media, gaming, or group chats, it’s important that we stay vigilant about cyberbullying.
Cyberbullying is real. It happens daily in communities across the country, and often, the signs are subtle.
Parents and Guardians - Look For:
Sudden changes in mood or behavior
Withdrawal from devices or friends
Anxiety before or after going online
Reluctance to go to school
If you suspect your child is being targeted, reach out to school administration right away. Depending on the situation, your local law enforcement will be included to help ensure safety and appropriate action.
Don’t wait. Silence only strengthens bullies.
Let’s keep our students safe, online and off.

Traffic Safety Tips: Stay Out of the Gore!
Let’s talk about a spot on the road many folks don’t even know has a name…the gore. It’s that triangle-shaped area between the highway and an on- or off-ramp, usually marked by solid white lines. And yes, it’s illegal to drive through it.
Here’s the deal:
According to O.C.G.A. §40-6-50, “no vehicle shall be driven over, across, or within any dividing space, barrier, gore, paved shoulder, or section separating the roadways of a divided highway.”
The gore exists for a reason: safety. It’s designed to protect drivers during merging and exiting. Cutting through it, whether you’re missing your exit or trying to jump into traffic, creates serious risks for everyone on the road.
What not to do:
Realizing too late you’re exiting and swerving back onto the highway across the gore.
Cutting across the gore to catch an exit you almost missed.
Jumping into highway traffic before the ramp officially merges.
Stay alert, plan ahead, and avoid the gore. You’ll stay safer and avoid a potential ticket.
Drive smart, Brookhaven!

If you see something, say something. Your call could make all the difference. For emergencies, always dial 911.

Crime Prevention and Community Watch: From Clicks to Reality: Staying Safe When Online Meets Offline
In today’s digital age, it’s easier than ever to make connections online, but when those connections move into real life, safety must come first.
Whether you're meeting someone from a social media platform, dating app, marketplace, or gaming community, here are smart, proactive tips to keep you and your loved ones safe:
Before You Meet:
Do your research. Run a quick online search of the person’s name and social media presence.
Trust your instincts. If something feels off, even if you can’t explain it, pause the interaction.
Avoid oversharing. Don’t give out your address, workplace, or daily routine.
When You Meet:
Meet in a public place. Choose well-lit locations with other people around.
Tell someone your plans. Share the time, location, and who you're meeting with a friend or family member.
Don’t rely on them for transportation. Drive yourself or take a trusted rideshare service.
Keep your phone charged and accessible. Always have a way to contact someone if needed.
Red Flags:
They avoid video chats or can’t provide basic details about themselves.
They ask for money, gift cards, or personal documents.
They pressure you to meet privately or alone.
Online connections can be meaningful but they should never compromise your safety. Let’s keep ourselves, our kids, and our neighbors aware and empowered. If anything ever feels suspicious, report it to law enforcement immediately.
Brookhaven Strong
“Community isn’t just about proximity…it’s about purpose.”
Each step we take to connect, protect, and look out for one another builds something bigger than any one person. Whether it’s through a race, a conversation, or simply showing up, we are shaping the kind of community we all want to live in.
If you’ve ever wondered if your small action matters, remember this:
Change doesn’t always start with a policy, it starts with a person.
This week, let’s be the neighbor who checks in.
The parent who talks about cyber safety.
The runner who signs up to support a cause.
The community member who says, “I’ll be there.”
Together, we make Brookhaven stronger.

A: Great question! Golf cart safety is a topic we’re actively working to address, especially as we’ve seen increased usage in neighborhoods and around schools. We’ll be dedicating next Monday’s edition to everything you need to know about golf cart safety laws, tips, and how to keep everyone safe on the road. Stay tuned!
