We’re Back—and We’ve Got Big News!
Hey Brookhaven—did you miss us?
Because we sure missed you! We took a quick Monday off to recharge, but now The Brookhaven Community Pulse is back and better than ever, packed with fresh updates and community goodness.
And while we were away, big things happened at BPD! Please join us in congratulating Captain Ayana, newly promoted to lead our Technology & Special Projects Division, and Lieutenant Nguyen, who will now serve as a Patrol Lieutenant. Both of these leaders bring passion, expertise, and heart to the department—and we couldn’t be prouder of their continued growth.
Let’s jump back into this week’s issue and keep the momentum going—because Brookhaven doesn’t slow down, and neither do we.

Community Heroes: Officer of the Quarter (1st)
We’re proud to celebrate Officer C. Johnson as our Officer of the Quarter—a title earned through dedication, action, and a commitment to excellence.
With nearly 20 years of service under his belt and the passion of a rookie on Day One, Officer Johnson continues to lead by example. From major felony arrests to stolen vehicle recoveries, his proactive efforts are a testament to the courage, honor, and integrity that define Brookhaven PD.
Please join us in honoring Officer Johnson for his outstanding impact and relentless drive to keep our community safe.
Proactive. Professional. Proven.

Cultivating Leaders, Creating Impact
This week, we're also proud to highlight Leadership Perimeter, an organization committed to developing and inspiring leaders to serve their communities with purpose, compassion, and bold vision.
Through experiential programs and powerful community collaborations, Leadership Perimeter empowers individuals to better understand regional challenges—and more importantly, step up to solve them.
One shining example? The Leadership Perimeter Class of 2025 recently launched an initiative addressing food insecurity at Cross Keys High School, organizing monthly food distribution events and a Digital Food Donation Drive that’s already impacted hundreds of families in need.
Want to support their mission in action?
You can make a difference today by purchasing an item from their Cross Keys High School Wishlist (https://tinyurl.com/CrossKeysHigh). All donations go directly to the school pantry to help students and their families thrive.
Leadership Perimeter, thank you for showing us what it means to lead with heart.

Traffic Safety Tips: Eyes on the Road, Brookhaven—April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month
April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and it’s the perfect time to pause, regroup, and take responsibility for how we show up behind the wheel.
You’ve heard it before—put the phone down—but Georgia’s Distracted Driving laws go beyond just texting.
Distractions come in many forms:
📱 Scrolling music playlists
🍔 Eating behind the wheel
💄 Grooming in the mirror
🐾 Turning around to check on a pet
📵 Even daydreaming
If it takes your attention off the road—even for a second—it’s a distraction.
This month, we’re challenging Brookhaven to keep it simple: Just. Drive. No excuses, no glances, no split focus. Because one second of distraction can lead to a lifetime of regret.
Let’s make our streets safer, one focused trip at a time.
If you see something, say something. Your call could make all the difference. For emergencies, always dial 911.

Crime Prevention
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), a time to raise awareness, support survivors, and promote safety and respect in our community.
This year's theme, "Building Connected Communities", emphasizes the importance of fostering environments where individuals feel safe, supported, and valued. By strengthening connections within our neighborhoods, workplaces, and social circles, we can work together to prevent sexual violence and create a culture of respect and inclusion.
Here's how you can contribute:
Support Survivors: Listen without judgment and believe those who come forward.
Speak Up: Challenge harmful behaviors and language that perpetuate violence.
Educate Yourself and Others: Learn about consent, boundaries, and bystander intervention.
Know the Resources: Familiarize yourself with local and national support services.
If you or someone you know needs assistance, the National Sexual Assault Hotline is available 24/7 at 1-800-656-4673 or online at rainn.org.
Together, we can build a community where everyone feels safe and respected.
Brookhaven Strong
Whether you’re leading a team, raising awareness, applying for your first job, or standing up for someone else—your voice matters.
You don’t need a microphone or a spotlight to make a difference. Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is speak up, ask a question, tell your story, or simply say, “That’s not okay.”
Every time you use your voice for good, you create space for others to do the same. And that’s how real change starts—one bold voice at a time.
“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes it’s the quiet voice saying, ‘I’ll try again tomorrow.’ And sometimes, it’s the voice that says, ‘Enough.’ Speak up, stand tall—your voice can be the beginning of someone else’s healing.”

Have a Question? We’ve Got Answers!
This section answers questions submitted by our community. Here’s one we received recently:
Q: I often see walkers and runners near the Capital City Golf Course walking with their backs to traffic. Isn’t that against the law—and dangerous?
A: You’re absolutely right—and thank you for bringing this up! According to Georgia law, pedestrians should walk or run facing oncoming traffic when there’s no sidewalk available. This gives you a better view of vehicles approaching and helps drivers see you sooner. It's especially important for parents with strollers, kids, and anyone walking near curves or narrow shoulders.
Safety Tip: If you're walking or running on a roadway without a sidewalk, always walk on the left side, facing traffic, and stay as far to the side as safely possible.
Want to help us improve signage or visibility in that area?
Use the Brookhaven Connect app to submit a request or suggestion. It’s a great tool for sharing concerns directly with city departments.
Let’s keep our roads—and our walkers—safe.
Got a question? Submit it here, and we might feature it in the next issue!
