A New Chapter for Community Pulse

If you've been reading Community Pulse for a while, you may notice things look a little different.

Over the past year, we've had the privilege of connecting with residents at neighborhood meetings, community events, local businesses, schools, and countless conversations across Brookhaven. One thing we've heard consistently is that people want more than updates. They want a better understanding of what their police department is doing, why it matters, and how they can be part of building a safer, stronger community.

That's exactly where Community Pulse is headed.

Moving forward, each edition will take you behind the scenes of the Brookhaven Police Department. We'll share the stories behind the work, introduce you to the people serving our community, celebrate the partnerships that make Brookhaven stronger, provide practical safety information, and keep you informed about opportunities to connect with us.

Our goal is simple: to make it easier to understand your police department, stay informed about what's happening in our community, and strengthen the relationships that help keep Brookhaven a great place to live, work, and visit.

Thank you for being part of this community. We're glad you're here, and we're excited to continue this journey together.

– Brookhaven Police Department

One Night. One Community.

National Night Out is more than an event. It's one of the most meaningful opportunities each year for neighbors, local businesses, community organizations, and the Brookhaven Police Department to come together in one place.

This year, we're excited to bring our National Night Out Back to School Bash to the Brookhaven Police Department, transforming our parking lot into a space where families can connect, explore community resources, and spend an evening getting to know the people who serve them every day.

Whether you're preparing for the new school year, looking for local resources, or simply wanting to enjoy a fun evening with your family, there's something for everyone.

Join us on Tuesday, August 4, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. for an evening filled with free food, school supplies, community resources, games, music, giveaways, bouncy houses, free haircuts, free nail services, Touch-a-Truck, and opportunities to meet Brookhaven police officers and many of our community partners.

Events like these remind us that strong communities aren't built during emergencies. They're built through conversations, shared experiences, and relationships that begin long before they're ever needed.

Admission is free, and everyone is welcome. We hope you'll bring your family, invite your neighbors, and spend the evening with us as we celebrate the strength of our Brookhaven community.

Interested in Participating?

Local businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations are invited to join us as vendors and resource partners. If your organization would like to participate, please contact Sergeant Moore at [email protected] for additional information.

Behind the Badge

Every day, the men and women of the Brookhaven Police Department answer calls, solve problems, build relationships, and serve our community with professionalism and compassion. While much of that work happens quietly and behind the scenes, it deserves to be recognized.

This month, we're proud to celebrate and honor officers/professional staff who have gone above and beyond in service to our department and the Brookhaven community.

Whether through exceptional leadership, teamwork, innovation, or dedication to serving others, each of these individuals represents the values that define the Brookhaven Police Department.

Please join us in congratulating these outstanding members of our team. We are grateful for their commitment and proud to recognize the difference they make every day.

Thank you for your service, your professionalism, and your continued commitment to making Brookhaven a safer and stronger community.

Community Wins

Here are a few moments worth celebrating from around Brookhaven:

Partnering to Prevent Fraud

Brookhaven Police Department recently partnered with Regions Bank to host a Fraud Awareness presentation, helping residents recognize common scams, protect their personal information, and stay informed about the latest fraud trends. Partnerships like these empower our community with knowledge and help prevent crime before it happens.

Keeping Our Community Informed

With golf carts becoming more common throughout our community, our officers spent time at the Brookhaven Farmers Market talking with residents about golf cart safety and Georgia laws. These conversations help ensure everyone can enjoy our streets safely while understanding the rules designed to protect drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike.

A Safe Fourth of July

Thank you, Brookhaven, for helping make this Fourth of July weekend a safe and enjoyable one. We appreciate everyone who celebrated responsibly and helped create a holiday weekend that families across our community could enjoy.

Crime Prevention - What is a Flipper?

You may have heard the term, but what exactly is a "flipper"?

A flipper is someone who walks through neighborhoods, apartment communities, hotel parking lots, or business parking lots trying door handles to see if vehicles have been left unlocked. If they find an unlocked vehicle, they'll often search for anything of value, including firearms, wallets, electronics, cash, and other personal belongings.

The good news is that one of the simplest ways to prevent becoming a victim is also one of the most effective: lock your vehicle every time you leave it, even if you're only stepping away for a few minutes.

Before you walk away, remember these simple steps:

  • Lock your vehicle.

  • Remove valuables whenever possible.

  • If you must leave items inside, keep them completely out of sight.

  • Never leave firearms unsecured inside your vehicle.

A few extra seconds can help prevent a theft and protect both your property and your peace of mind.

Did You Know

Did you know you can file certain police reports online without coming to the police department?

The Brookhaven Police Department offers online reporting for several non-emergency incidents, making it easier and more convenient for residents to report qualifying crimes from home.

Online reporting is available for incidents such as:

  • Aggressive driving

  • Bad checks

  • Vandalism

  • Lost or misplaced property

  • Non-criminal property damage

  • Theft by taking (under $500)

  • Theft from a vehicle

  • Shoplifting that occurred previously when there is no suspect information

  • Business or civil disputes where there has been no breach of the peace

To use the online reporting system, the incident must have occurred within the City of Brookhaven, there cannot be any suspect information or evidence to collect, the incident cannot be in progress, and it must not involve a violent crime.

If your situation requires an officer to respond, involves a violent crime, a stolen vehicle, a traffic accident, domestic violence, a missing person, a stolen firearm, or any incident where evidence needs to be collected, please contact the Brookhaven Police Department directly instead of submitting an online report.

Visit our online reporting portal to learn more and determine if your incident qualifies.

Got a question? Submit it here, and we might feature it in the next issue!
